CNY Central

My most recent job and where I've spent the past three and half years of my life has been at CNY Central; Central New York's best news station.  My time was spent working alongside the team of marketing consultants, generating commercial content for broadcast.  I had a lot of hands-on experience while conceptualizing and producing commercials everyday. I realized I wasn't just making commercials for the station, I was also adding value and visual appeal to the community.  I had quite the experience shooting, directing, editing, and writing video content this entire time with some exceptionally talented people. I've made some friendships from CNY Central that I believe will last for life.

The Reading League

Initiated out of a commercial shoot through CNY Central; Dr. Maria Murray, the wife of the owner of Murray's Heating and Air, asked if I could do freelance work for her non-profit organization The Reading League. It started out as producing Maria's sabbatical videos for SUNY Oswego, it then turned into shooting and editing the educational seminars for The Reading League at various schools around central New York. I also hired and managed a group of videographers who were tasked to record The Reading League's annual Conference in October 2017. The most recent work I've done for The Reading League was conceptualizing, directing, shooting, and editing two marketing videos. Both videos are mid-form, documentary style, introductory videos geared towards telling viewers what The Reading League is, what they do, and why their mission is so important. The video's were funded by a grant from the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. These videos go out to potential donors, grant funding organizations, and schools in need of help. All of the work that I've done has been in an effort to keep the momentum going that Dr. Maria Murray and company started only two years ago. The Reading League now has outreach in cities across the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

"The Reading League's mission is to build educator knowledge of how to teach reading using evidence-based, highly effective methods of reading instruction and assessment. "

I'm very proud to have been a part of their growth and outreach, I believe in their mission, and I hope that they continue to achieve the success I know they've always been destined for!

Bean Media Productions

Bean Media Productions is a digital marketing company in Buffalo, New York. Though I had worked hands-on in the video production realm all through college; this was my first time doing it outside of school. As one part of a two-man team, I was shooting either in the studio or on location, editing long and short form media content, designing motion graphics, and writing marketing videos that would go on the web. I was also responsible for handling S.E.O. and integrating metadata into each video produced. The work that I did at Bean helped many business owners finally break onto the web for the first time; digitally allowing them to be seen and heard to a online demographic.

SRI International

SRI International is an organization contracted out by the U.S. Government to conduct training programs for the military. My time with the Army National Guard's XCTC program is probably the most exciting story I have. SRI International will go to a military base and set up a training program where they record and play back the soldier's exercise regiments. I was a video editor in a small group who edited the exercise reviews for mistakes. Our group was also responsible for the Hero Video during the duration of the exercise which includes highlights and sequences of the soldiers training for morale boosting. I ran right alongside the soldiers during combat exercises. It was the first, and hopefully, only time I ever saw someone fire a bazooka. As exciting as it was trust me when I say I will never forget the the intense smell of sulfur that those things emit!

Film Days

Immediately after college I freelanced and apprenticed under my Sound Design Instructor Michael Bouquard. Mike and I did some work for NDStudios, Inc. for their webseries and a few of their films.  I learned quite a bit about proper technique, how to record the best audio, and general boom operator etiquette. During this time I also worked on my friend's films: Briarwood and As Ever, as a Boom Operator.

Quinlan & Company

Towards the end of my college career I got the chance to intern for a advertising agency in Buffalo, NY; Quinlan & Co. is a small marketing company that packs a big punch! I worked closely with Frank Conjerti who is now Quinlan's Creative Director. Under Frank's instruction, I learned After Effects in-depth and got hands-on experience on commercial shoots at this internship.

Let them have their way

I was lucky enough to be a part of a feature film production starting in my sophomore year of college: The film Let Them Have Their Way

It was an ambitious project that I got to work on with my friends from the Media Studies department. I  was one of the Equipment Managers between the Production Team and the Media Studies Department as well as a production assistant on our sets that spanned the Western New York Region. It truly was a great learning experience. I was fortunate enough to be of a select few from the media studies department that got to work on it.

UBTV

Working at my college's student run television department was a great way to get involved with student activities and events. I consider all UBTV alumni to be friends for life; really more like a family.

While working there I conceptualized, shot, directed, and edited both my own shows and my colleague's shows. Notable programs included: Today in UB Sports, Dormtime with Colin, Fine Dining with Cori Fine, and my own show Matt vs. Food.

Besides creating original content the members of UBTV shot with IMAG cameras at the Student Association's Fall and Spring Festivals. UBTV also shot and edited Club events and programs as instructed by the Student Association.
